A stroke strikes suddenly
Around 24 New Zealanders will have a stroke today.
If someone has a stroke, it means something has stopped the normal flow of blood to their brain. This can occur when a blood vessel in their brain bursts or becomes blocked by a blood clot.
This can cause brain damage, but you can help if you know the signs and act fast.
A stroke is an emergency. If you see any of these signs get help straight away. Getting help fast can reduce damage to the brain and give someone a better chance of recovery.
